The Irving McKenny Reed Papers consist of business and personal correspondence, handwritten diaries, personal and political papers, including a selection of Pioneers of Alaska legal papers, information on municipal improvements in Fairbanks, Alaska, and photographs of Nome, Alaska, and family. Irving McKenny Reed (1889-1968), both a highway engineer and a mining engineer, did field work throughout Alaska. He was also municipal project engineer in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he served as city councilman for eight years. Reed was Alaska's first fire warden and held the office of Territorial Game Commissioner for twelve years. He made the first report on the discovery of platinum at Goodnews Bay for the Alaska Territorial Department of Mines,and helped to develop production there. ...
